Thanks everyone. I've sent it to NGC as it is very reflective and I hope it makes MS. Either way I'm keeping it, the colour is stunning. Unsure if there is slight wear to the high points or it was a weak strike. As the lustre is very reflective I am inclined to say it is a weak strike but I shall update when I know the grade.

Love that toning! Please let us know what NGC determines. As for myself, I see wear, and call it an AU.

Certainly will do. There seems to be a 3 month wait at the moment at NGC, they are currently opening packages received from the week commencing 22nd Nov.

Lovely toning and coin - but some obvious wear. This would be a high EF/low AU coin.
By the way 25 kopeks was known as a Polipoltnik to the Old Russians. A Poltina was 50 Kopeks and Poli meant half.

I appreciate the bump on this, missed it on the first go. A very nice looking example!

Very beautiful coin. I see what looks like rub on the design high points. However, I wouldn't be too surprised if NGC came back with an MS grade. Small field scratches suggest an upper limit of MS-63. Otherwise, high AU with maybe a star for great eye appeal.
I have an 1839 poltina (half rouble) graded NGC MS-63. Your coin has a better strike, stronger luster, and much nicer color. Please share the grade when you find out!

Well there we go. MS64. I am so so delighted with this. For months I've been checking photos, and comparing to similar coins that have been graded. I kept coming to the same conclusion, that this was a weak strike and not AU like the majority of people were saying. Especially after seeing the NGC professional photos. I know we often overgrade our own submissions but in this instance I really thought it was MS63, so to see it has been graded MS64 is really great. In the center of the obverse, on regular and strong strikes there are horizontal lines, and on mine there are none. If the higher points were worn, then why would this 'inset' central design be worn? It just did not make sense. Combined with the fact that the lustre was blazing and completely unbroken. I was worried NGC might just think it was circulation wear and not a weak strike, but they haven't and I think this is completely accurate. Hooray for NGC.
