 to CCF! The W/A on the obverse are the initials of the designer, Adolph Weinman. The S mintmark is on the reverse, to the right of the eagle. |

Hi Carolyn, Welcome. On the Obverse of the coin WA are the designers Initials ( Adolph Weinman)  The mint mark (S) is on the reverse of the coin, like Zurie posted above  |

There is no 's' on the back of the silver dollar. But thank you for telling me about the designer's initials. I am very disappointed it does not have a mint mark!

If it looks like this ( no mint mark), its bullion (a coin sold for its silver content only). At the current silver price these are selling for $32-$35. You shouldn't buy the bullion slabbed or pay any extra premium.   |

If no S mintmark on the reverse, is it possible what you purchased was listed as a "2021 (S)" silver eagle? The S in ( ) indicates a supplemental mintage of bullion eagles minted at San Francisco to help with a shortage in certain years, (including 2020 and 2021) but do not have a mintmark. They are identical to the other bullion silver eagles (but indeed minted at the San Francisco mint). They could only be distinguished by markings on the original 500 count boxes from the mint. They have a lower mintage than from West Point (about 2 million if I remember correctly). Some collectors put a premium on them others not.

@Ptiger70, Probable what you ordered was the uncirculated version. Advertised as "S" because it came from a box of emergency production eagles minted in San Francisco but not bearing the S mint mark.

@PTiger 70 Also was the coin you purchased listed as "proof"? The only silver eagles to have an S mintmark actually on them were proof coins. There are also proof eagles with a W mintmark. Uncirculated eagles, from the mint have a W mintmark also, while all bullion eagles whether minted at West Point, San Francisco, or Philadelphia have no mintmark.

Don't look now, but those cheepie bullion coins are selling for almost $40 from the discount cash dealers online.
