Translation from Modesto: Quote: History is important because it allows you to learn from it and thus not repeat the same mistakes. The coins are part, and a reflection, of that history.

The Nazi government did not issue any silver coin into circulation in the war years 1939-45. The only silver coins that bear a Nazi swastika symbol are the 5 Mark Hindenburg issue of 1935-39.

The coins for sale in the link you posted are not silver, they are zinc.

I like to leave out religion & politics or any other social considerations to collect & welcome just the coins.

Raiden: Thanks for posting the link to the coins. These are the exact type coins in my personal collection. They look to be in great condition. The price is right to own a piece of history in my opinion.

The only problem is they are not able to be sold or bought on ebay in the U.S.. What you can do is avoid using the word "NAZI" when selling and just post the date/denomination so to avoid ebay pulling them down. They have a good market. The zinc pieces are tough in UNC due to their oxidation tendencies. John Lorenzo, Numismatist.

I myself would not buy them, but I also don't collect German coins. If you want them you should get them. But I always question considering the regime (same for example North Korea coins/notes) why people want them. If because they are supporting the atrocities caused by that regime, then they should question their morality. The coins aren't going to change anyone's morales. If for the history, then get them, understand what was done at that time period.

Coins should be collected because they are part of history. Other people collect coins because they are beautifully designed or fit in a certain collecting theme. I for instance am assembling a set of coins of composers. Part of that set are several coins from the former USSR. Should I not buy those coins because Stalin was a dictator who send millions to the gulag to die?

I have several German coins from the period - the swastika does not bother me at all. History is history, good or bad it's al important to remember.

I have to admit:- I missed the small swastika in the legends of the Potsdam commemorative.

The swastika is originally from ancient India (4000 B.C. or older) and roughly means "good luck) I own my Great Aunt's jewelry collection and there are several peices from India with the swastika. We all know that the Nazis took that symbol to an "all time" different meaning during WWII, but it existed a long, long before that.
