Is there anyway I could possibly communicate with someone via email that knows about VAM varieties. I have found some things on my Morgan that I can't find listed in any of the varieties for 7/8 TF 7/4. I have taken some up close pictures of these items but can't get them down to 300kb without loosing clarity of the pictures. When I joined I had clicked the box for people to be able to communicate with me via email. If this is possible, please email me and place MSD VAMS as the subject please. Hopefully I can hear from someone and we can discuss my coin. Thanx

I clicked on your profile, but it shows you "do not" want to receive emails. You'll need to fix that before we can communicate. It may be related to your post count. Check the rules first.

I am almost positive this is VAM 37 as the markers appear to match. (am a newbie at this and have spent hours and hours looking at this coin) But I have found an S mint mark between the G in GOD and the A in STATES. I can't find anything showing this as part of VAM 37. I can see it with my loupe and microscope. I am having trouble getting a clear picture of this to post here. Every time I cut it down to 300kb I lose clarity in the pic. Have tried at least 25 different ways of getting a pic of this at 300kb. Will continue to try, but would love to have someone accept an email pic from me to confirm what I see. Does anyone know if there is VAM with a mint mark in this location?

Yes it says new members do not have the ability to email. sigh guess I will keep trying to take pics. If this is confirmed would it be a new variety or how would it be classfied? Thanx SeatedNut for your reply

After rereading, I should have said an S that mimics the style of a mint mark S. It is smaller than a mint mark.

hmmmm.no comments on the S ? I have found extra metal between the leaves of the olive branch that I can't find listed in any of the VAM varieties for 7/8 TF 7/4. Is anyone familiar with an olive branch that has this additional metal? Hopefully the picture won't be to bad. Getting some different lighting for future pics.

Am by no means fighting. There are two things that are different on my coin versus vam37. On the obverse the E in ONE is doubled to the right with the strongest plaice being at the upper serif and can also be seen inside the E below the middle serif at the backside of it (being a doubling of the upright post of the E). The upper serif is a raised area outlined by the dirt that is seen in the original picture. Also right above the E is a die chip above the second leaf tip of the wreath.

It also appears that I may have a doubled star 5 right. On the roughly south side. It's either an extra point or a die chip. I am leaning towards a point, based on loupe viewing and other pictures I was taking in the sun when my phone went dead. Attached is an existing photo I had. Will check my new pictures when phone charges and see if I can crop something to 300kb. Also I have questions about the die chips it states are around D W E U (IGWT). I can't find any pictures of these. On the letters O W E on my coin I have solid raised lines that run the length of the bottom of the letters. Is this to be considered die chips? I also have extra metal below first T in trust. A die chip possibly? Also at the bottom on the N in IN there appears to be extra metal.

Die chips generally have nothing to do with VAM assignment. They are common on Morgan dollars. If you feel you have a new variety that deserves further research, the best option is to post your images at VamWorld. That's where new varieties are assigned. The experts over there can tell you if they would consider looking at the coin in more detail.

I am new at all of this. I was just wondering about what the die chips look like by those letters. Maybe what I am seeing on the bottom of the letters is DDD or MD or is the die chips they speak of or something else. I surely have no idea. Was lookin for help with those. I definitely have raised metal by the E in ONE that is the shape of the upper serif of the E. And the possible extra point on star 5. Just things I have seen while I was looking at my coin. So if the die chips are not relevant, why are they listed in so many different VAM descriptions I have read? Anyone live in south central PA that is knowledgeable about vams, that would want to meet a new member and look at my coin with me? If it's a new variety, I will share the "discovered by" with you. I am just a 66year old grandpa, that is freshly retired. I will gladly pay some $$$ if need be. Thanx everyone for your replies.
