Thanks gang!Quote: Looks like a LD to me Cujohn, besides the date design, a good way of determining the small date is the weakly struck ERTY in LIBERTY.

It's a large date. Note the shape of the '9'? Just extreme die polishing altering the devices. Not a Small date. The direction '9' inside look points in the wrong direction:

Coinhi the pup on the liberty is a weak Y not the erty. This is a LD, 9 is pointing down not horizontal .

I made a side by side pic yesterday but did not think it would be necessary to post, obviously it is. CoinHI's cent has been beaten up a bit but can easily be seen as a small date. I have never heard anyone else use this as a pick up point but the Zero is also oblong, out of round, with the small date, the large date is a true oval, just noticed this, looking at several . Anyway, the pics show CoinHI's, as clearly a small date. I'd drop my mic and walk off the stage right now, if I had a mic or a stage.

Nice comparison images Makescents. The curve of the 9 is easy to see when placed side by side.
Congrats on the "wild" find coinhi.

Thanks PP55 and thanks for that visual Makecents. I really didn't think there was a question whether or not it was a small date but I appreciate all the comments and hopefully this will be a constructive example for collectors to help discern between the two varieties.
