Thanks everyone. I've seen that on 73D in the past. I don't remember the spike look flaring off like that. Does it look like they tried to get rid of it from the field?  Isn't that what happens when they polish to much it causes trails? I'm not sure about FF. I can't remember if the FF come in from a different direction. |

I really don't think this is Feeder Finger Damage, it doesn't look like typical FFD from this time period to me. The effect looks very similar to some examples of recurring die subsidence I've seen with trail-like lines coming off the top left of the building (I don't think these are trails, just a similar looking effect associated with the subsidence). Also, in the full coin pics provided, it seems like the bulge continues into the columns and bays just like the other examples. Just check the image below. Photo from Error-Ref:  Edited by Tanman2001

You're right Tanner. This 73D has that same problem in bays 1,2,3 like Error-Ref shows.

@tan/@make, thx for the friendly discussion on this point. I wonder if the two are linked. In other words, could the distortion of the die caused by subsidence sometimes cause heavier rubbing of the feeder fingers on the die?  "If you climb a good tree, you get a push."

Spence, all of the feeder fingers I have seen on memorials are coming from the far east end of the memorial, running east to west, at an upward angle, southeast to northwest. I found a thread, on this site, that coop composed, of different pics, running the opposite direction. This is abnormal but so is what the 73D has going on. Not sure but with what little I know, I'm sticking with the original assessment, of recurring die subsidence, it just looks much different, in my opinion. Thanks everyone for comments and thoughts. Jon thanks for pulling up coops link. Now I remember checking it out awhile ago. The thought I had of wondering if these could be trails, is that these lines are on the face of the memorial cornice and upper roof also? Thought maybe the polishing bristles hit that area also. Wasn't sure if FF could hit that area also.  Edited by RobO411

If the upper cornice area was the only area affected, it might look like FFD. But because the bays are affected, it is a die issue of die subsidence. Always learning more each day.
