This is a good illustration of just how much the pariedolia effect requires the expectation of seeing specific things, to "see things that aren't there".
Not being American, I am completely ignorant of which dates/mintmarks are rare in the
Lincoln Penny series. It therefore wouldn't occur to me to "look for a D on 1914". Without that subconscious expectation, I don't see a "D" that isn't there.
If you asked me "what letter or letters do you see beneath the date", I would have said I see a C, and a V. Both of which are obviously meaningless and impossible, as far as phantom mintmarks are concerned.
