Mfhorn stated: " Has anyone else? " I have received Damaged OGP products and returned and Stopped the subscription. The boxes were Crushed..... To Some, All Original Packaging is Just as Important as the Coins/Medals inside, ... The topic of the " Newest/Cheapest/ Weak link " in the U S Dis-Appointmints arsenal, Very Under-Supervised Quality Control ( Obvious for Too long ) . New releases of Perfect examples are More then expected After the gouging , Along with Seemingly Very Poor Decisions in Mailing out the Finished products. Are people wrong in expecting a new coin to be Brand New , Free of All defects, IMO Yes.... They are changing the entire release system with " Auctions " for the Extremely Wealthy..... All the changes Together add up to a Differing vision, of Days gone bye.....Sad.

As I've stated in many other topics, like others I've trimmed my annual purchases WAY down. At this point I'm at one each of the annual uncirculated, proof, American Innovation, RP AI, and silver proof sets. Also any ASE option they sell. If prices keep trending as they have been, I'll soon be getting out of buying from the US Mint directly all together. When Proof/Uncirc ASEs crack $100 (which will probably be very soon), I'm out.

" Many have worked Extremely hard & focused on The American Silver Eagles Series, To acquire every single mint marked version/finish made @ the U S Mints. They now are moving forward with Privy marked ASE's, I am not talking about Any Bullion coins, Only mint marked ones. I see these " marked " ASE's sitting with the rest of a complete up to date collection. ( all mint marked offerings ). I believe the days of ASE's being offered Under $100 @ the mint are going to end Sooner than later..... We are along for this ride, Hope it's a Much longer one....

These will be considered legit varieties, and the album companies will make spots for them in their albums. 2021 was an expensive year for ASEs for a similar reason (switchover from Type 1 to Type 2); 2025 is looking that way too now with the various privy marks.

I never bought a thing from the US Mint. The quarter sets I did buy was from the aftermarket, for much less than the initial sales price.

"Cost recovery basis" means no net costs to the taxpayer. They can even run slightly above costs and return the surplus to the general fund. My issue is that the mint exists to make circulation coins. Not to make collector coins, that's a side business. And it seems that a disproportionate amount of overhead and fixed costs are being born by the collectors. Yet if you look at the mint director's report collector coins are the dog and circulation coins are the tail...

OTOH, I would be concerned if stamping out zillions of acceptable mass produced circulating clad coins dumped into 55 gallon barrels wasn't a cheap exact science at this point.
It is frustrating that they set up to make a small run of collector's coin and then don't even make enough to satisfy demand. That seems like a huge waste on their end for reducing overhead per specialty coin.

There are many things I wish the Mint did better, but I am reluctant to complain because I can imagine many more things that would make it many times worse.

Quote: $36.25 to buy $25 worth of coins in a roll just feels ridiculous. Gee, you guys have got it good. A $20 roll of $1 coins is Australia will cost you $55 for heads or tails showing on both ends, if you want heads on one end and tails on the other (Premium roll) it will be $60. This years uncirculated coin set contains $3.85 worth of coins and sells for $40. Oh, and $10 minimum postage on top of that if you buy from the mint.
