Just got this email from the US Mint...
Dear Valued Customer, The United States Mint works on a cost-recovery basis and our goal is to provide the best quality numismatic products while keeping prices as low as practicable. Unfortunately, due to rising material and labor costs, the United States Mint is raising prices on numismatic clad products. Effective the morning of January 2, 2025, at 12:00 am ET, product prices for rolls, bags, boxes, and ornaments will increase by 5% and all other clad products will increase by 15%. Prices for all clad subscription products released after January 2, 2025, will be impacted by this change. We encourage you to take this opportunity to order now prior to the price increase taking effect.
I may need to rethink some of my subscriptions. $36.25 to buy $25 worth of coins in a roll just feels ridiculous...
I'll likely keep my proof sets, but I'm on the fence about that too.
This is getting out of control.

I havent ordered proof sets since 2018 when they jumped all their prices up. $60 for a proof set was good value. It was a big back stab when they announced the 2019 Silver Proof set was the same as the year before with 3 LESS silver quarters. I really no longer collect annual sets from the US Mint anymore except for specialty sets. The price increase has been getting way out of hand. $35 for a standard proof set is already a bit expensive and another 15% makes it harder to buy them. US Mint has seem to made very bad choices this year with a few sets, privy marks, and price adjustments. Silver Prices went up Silver Morgan/Peace (MS/PR/RPR) Mintage going up instead of down (along with price increase, which of course was like a week or 2 before the release date) auctioning off the privy gold flowing hair for the mega rich ( ebay has a few for $60k) Not selling ALL the flowing hair medal as last time I checked it was 50k sold with a limit of 75k (with 1796 being privy marks... AKA who knows how many privy marks are out there still of the missing 25k medals that have not been sold)

H-m-m, I'm wondering if the Mint is one of these notorious price-gouging entities that's contributing to our inflation?

Just let the mint know how you feel by canceling your subscriptions. We voice our opinions by walking away with our money still in our pockets.

This Topic is Far from over....... Anyone know Exactly what this term means: ' " The United States Mint works on a cost-recovery basis " Coincollector123 Stated: " " Silver Prices went up Silver Morgan/Peace (MS/PR/RPR) Mintage going up instead of down (along with price increase, which of course was like a week or 2 before the release date) auctioning off the privy gold flowing hair for the mega rich ( ebay has a few for $60k) Not selling ALL the flowing hair medal as last time I checked it was 50k sold with a limit of 75k (with 1796 being privy marks... AKA who knows how many privy marks are out there still of the missing 25k medals that have not been sold) " The above coins and medals have spiked up more than interest, the pricing Has been Very Over the Top for Years. The Mint has Many Wonderful Coins and Medals that Many Here Collect and Have been doing so for Decades. The American Silver Eagle Series Program started doing " Privy marks ", The Annual sets Proof sets, Limited Edition Special Proof Sets, Military Medals, Presidential Silver Medal Series, Commemoratives, etc. The Morgan dollars do Not have any purpose being Re Minted and sold, Not an Anniversary, Just along for the Peace dollars Anniversary. ( which the mint does Not even mention the Anniversary anymore ). It Would seem the Mint's labor rates went up, The Topic of Increases are a Norm for Anyone who frequents the Mint's, I personally will not be completing Certain Series I started moving into 2025 ... Enough Was Long Ago........

I'm down to 2 subscriptions and the women's quarter (in silver) will be the last year in 2025.
Other than the Innovation dollars, after 2025 I'm done with the US Mint.
Well, I need to see the 2026 Liberty coinage, I might get that but it will be in silver only.

They have zero excuse to keep raising prices like this. 5% or 15% is way above the inflation rate. Saying that it's "due to rising material and labor costs" is simply not true. At this point, the annual Mint Set is all I buy from the Mint, and looks like that won't change.

I have one item to purchase for 2025, and that's probably my last Mint purchase. Not down for themed products and auctions and super inflation, etc.

I cancelled my subscriptions and purchased nothing from the Mint in 2024. I don't see a reason to shop there any longer, but who knows what irresistible items they may come up with in the future.
Bad business practices at the Mint abound. Packaging goes from pretty nice to cheap and chintzy. Charging more for the same items. You can find some of the 1.5-inch copper medals on their website, previously priced at less than $5 - now cost north of $20! That's a lot of cost recovery on an item that has done nothing but sit on their shelves for a few years. I started the presidential medals at $40, then bailed when they increased by more than 100%. Eventually, their only customers will be bulk purchase resellers.

Don't forget the cheap plastic bubble mailers the Mint is now using, instead of a cardboard box with bubble wrap. I haven't had anything damaged YET, but it is bound to happen. Has anyone else?

Mfhorn stated: " Has anyone else? " I have received Damaged OGP products and returned and Stopped the subscription. The boxes were Crushed..... To Some, All Original Packaging is Just as Important as the Coins/Medals inside, ... The topic of the " Newest/Cheapest/ Weak link " in the U S Dis-Appointmints arsenal, Very Under-Supervised Quality Control ( Obvious for Too long ) . New releases of Perfect examples are More then expected After the gouging , Along with Seemingly Very Poor Decisions in Mailing out the Finished products. Are people wrong in expecting a new coin to be Brand New , Free of All defects, IMO Yes.... They are changing the entire release system with " Auctions " for the Extremely Wealthy..... All the changes Together add up to a Differing vision, of Days gone bye.....Sad.

As I've stated in many other topics, like others I've trimmed my annual purchases WAY down. At this point I'm at one each of the annual uncirculated, proof, American Innovation, RP AI, and silver proof sets. Also any ASE option they sell. If prices keep trending as they have been, I'll soon be getting out of buying from the US Mint directly all together. When Proof/Uncirc ASEs crack $100 (which will probably be very soon), I'm out.

Celtic Stated : " When Proof/Uncirc ASEs crack $100 (which will probably be very soon), I'm out. " Many have worked Extremely hard & focused on The American Silver Eagles Series, To acquire every single mint marked version/finish made @ the U S Mints. They now are moving forward with Privy marked ASE's, I am not talking about Any Bullion coins, Only mint marked ones. I see these " marked " ASE's sitting with the rest of a complete up to date collection. ( all mint marked offerings ). I believe the days of ASE's being offered Under $100 @ the mint are going to end Sooner than later..... We are along for this ride, Hope it's a Much longer one....

These will be considered legit varieties, and the album companies will make spots for them in their albums. 2021 was an expensive year for ASEs for a similar reason (switchover from Type 1 to Type 2); 2025 is looking that way too now with the various privy marks.
