Also - how many dies do you think it takes to make 39,840,000 coins, if you make 100k to 250k coins per die?

I wasn't exactly clear on the Single Squeeze method of the minting process, the included reference material is much appreciated!! I have been searching 50's, 60's & 70's cents for so long and just recently started looking into the modern coins DD's. The difference is very noticeable. Thanks for the info guys!

Quote: It actually makes me think twice about even searching modern coins for errors/varieties. Thoughts on this anyone? IMO the people looking for them mainly do it to get a new listing or they just enjoy the hunt/fun. Because people soon realize very few doubled dies, compared to how many are known, bring a nice premium in the coin collecting community.

Some wonderful information here - good read @Makecents, and it makes sense too. I'm just wondering if "smooshed" is a technical term ..

Thanks for fixing the title I really don't know where nickels came from, but I was referring solely to 2009 Lincoln Formative years cents. Geez Is it really 2025 already?

Interesting article to read, same as when it first came out. https://doubleddie.com/58222.htmlThe term Single-Squeeze Hubbing (Era) did not start out as its description suggests. Kind of reminds me of making dies with no alignment lugs back in 1969-1972. Thanks, Doug. Quote: Geez Is it really 2025 already? Hope to let you know if I wake up in this same reality.

After ingesting the reading materials, I understand much better, why there are so many Doubled Dies on these modern coins (as miniscule as they may be).It is in my opinion, very overwhelming but something I will adapt to as a collector. I had to read the material a few times to understand it but did answer my questions as to the mechanics of how and why there are so many 2009 FY One Cents DD's to look thru. Good Luck fellow coin hounds, it ain't gettin' no easier!!

But at least they are all in the same area like the 177 DDRs for the Homestead quarter. The real challenge is the 129 DDRs for the 2023 nickel which are all over the reverse.

I hear ya Seek. Something tells me, you will eventually find all those 129 DDR's for the '23 nickels. Mind Blowing!!

Quote: how many dies do you think it takes to make 39,840,000 coins, if you make 100k to 250k coins per die 160 to 400 die pairs using those figures. But.... 2009 P had a mintage of 376, 000,000 coins so the number of dies were 3,760 to 1504 die pairs (@ 100,000 to 250,000 per die pair) Link to Lincoln Cent coin production- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linco...tage_figures
