It's kind of cool looking but a comparison between the two in nohope's post makes it obvious it's a fake.

The area between the denticles and the edge is very telling.

Even as a fake it's probably worth $5 - just to have an example. There are actually people out there who collect fakes and alterations for educational purposes, and I have heard of as much as $500 given for a fake 1856 Flying Eagle cent. So some of these things can have some value.

Adam_E - Are you stating you can see the differences or are you asking a question here? All you have to do is look at the images and compare the details. They are nearly ALL different. I'll get you started:

1. The leaf detail and wheat grain detail in the bundle above the coronet are WAY different. The fake has very little detail, while the real thing looks much nicer.

2. The eye is a different size and shape.

3. The date is a different size.

4. The stars on the fake are large and bold, while the same details on the real coin are thinner and crisper.

5. The words across the top of the fake are misaligned and fat. The same letters on the real coin are properly aligned and are thinner.

6. The surface of the fake looks grainy and lack-luster. The surface of the real coin is proof-like with a hint of cameo.

With a good eye for detail you can spot a large number of differences I did not mention here.

I am just going to add my 2 cents...at a late phase in the conversation but it is indeed a bogus copy of the real thing.

Thanks,
Bill

I couldn't help but notice that Miss Liberty's facial profile on
the fake coin was made to resemble her profile on Morgan dollars.
(so that an uneducated buyer would think it was real,
because it resembles a Morgan profile)
On the real coin, Miss Liberty's profile is deliberately different
from Morgan dollars, because if real goloid coins had been made, the
U.S. would not have wanted them to resemble Morgan dollars.
Any resemblance would have caused confusion.

When the Morgan dollar was mentioned, then I could see all kinds
of things going on with the forgery. Date, denticles, profile, stars
etc. I bet if you lined up the same date on a morgan with this one
they would copy in every detail.
