It's *supposed* to be a pattern, or experimental, coin made to test an alloy of silver, gold and copper being proposed as a way to reduce size of silver dollars. It was ultimately rejected due to concerns about counterfeiting. Chances are very good that this is a copy, as genuine examples are pretty rare and valuable.
SuperDave and a few other experts will be along shortly.

I've seen one - it's a pattern - but I'm not sure on the price. Patterns have never really been my thing.

I lean toward fake but it is close enough I would not want to condemn it outright just from images. The one thing that makes me uneasy about it is the obverse stars seem to be too large, and the date seems slightly wrong. Especially note the width of the upright of the 1.

I can...it's definitely fake, no question about it.

I like it though. Even if it is fake.

It's kind of cool looking but a comparison between the two in nohope's post makes it obvious it's a fake.

The area between the denticles and the edge is very telling.

Even as a fake it's probably worth $5 - just to have an example. There are actually people out there who collect fakes and alterations for educational purposes, and I have heard of as much as $500 given for a fake 1856 Flying Eagle cent. So some of these things can have some value.
