Some of those rolls might be worth a small fortune.

There are exceedingly few sources for clad quarters and many varieties simply escaped being saved at all. Now they don't exist in uncirculated condition and you might well have a few in some of these rolls. Things like unc '72-D type "b" reverse or 1977 type "d" reverse coins are going to be worth a great deal of money if anyone ever finds one.

The '72-D would need a space between the E and S in States and the '77-P (or D) would need a space between the right side of the N in Unum and the eag;le's head to be the rare varieties.

Keep in mind though that neither of these is truly rare. The mintage of the '72-D is estimated at 80,000 and the '77 at 150,000. But it appears neither of these exist in unc except a single '72-D. There are numerous other such coins like a '71-D DDR or a 1974 reverse of 1972.

People simply didn't pay attention to these coins since everyone thought they were junk and almost no one set even one coins aside. If it weren't for mint sets most dates would be scarce in unc.

This is a reason why I like roll hunting....not that I will find such nice examples like these....but, rescuing nice gems of various denominations in general, as I find them, and just putting them away in coin tubes for my 11 year old daughter to look through when she's 56 years old with her grandkids.

Nice pics...nice coins - ...

Some nice looking quarters ...

I agree ... The 82/83's are hard to find in high grade.
And the RedBook reflects it in the listed prices.

The RedBook lists the '82-P for only $15 in MS-65.

The reality is even a nicely made chBU (MS-63) will sell on ebay for $50. There may not be any true Gems but the hiughest graded coins that the services churn out go for $600.

I believe moderns are being done a severe disservice by being underpriced in the catalogs and being dramatically overgraded by the services. The catalog pricing is especially problematical. No beginner is going to want to pay $50 for a chBU on ebay when the RedBook says it's worth only $3.

Why are all the classics dramatically overpriced and the moderns are very underpriced? It must be working to suppress these markets.

Funny I didn't mention it when this thread was current but both the '82-D and '83-D in the original post are type "d" reverses. While none of the coins are gemmy the '82-D is really very nice and one to hang on to. I'd grade them all MS-60 or MS-61 except the '82-D is a solid MS-64 I believe and better pictures might make it look higher grade yet.

While we're on the subject of 1977-1983 quarters, can these be checked for anything like what he's got? Here's a 1977 D and a 1982 D

I am seeing something similar on the obverse, kinda like what he's got

jeffatNJC, what are you using to take your pictures? They show the detail quite nicely. Excuse me for getting a little off topic.

They both look like type "c" reverse to me but the second one's a little harder to tell.

The mint didn't sell mint sets those years. If you wanted a mint set, you had to go to each mint and buy the set at the locations. Why? Anyway the BU coins are limited as the public did not realize there were no mint sets sold for those years. Thus the BU coins are keepers and move valuable for collectors filling their books.
