I've been through quite a few of the VAMS for this dates and I've found that as I've aged I can't see lots of what the VAMS are providing. I'd appreciate any help on this one as the heavy toning is limiting what I can and cannot see. Thanks in advance. BTW if you click the image you'll see it's a large hi-res picture.

After digging through I am now leaning towards https://vamworld.com/wiki/1880-S_VAM-123

Your images have disappeared.

Since you host your own, there is nothing I can do to fix it.

The mintmark is a medium S, and VAM-123 is a large S, so definitely not that. I would focus on VAMs with a medium S mintmark shifted left, and rule out those with incorrect date positions. Then it's a matter of looking for die markers, which would be very hard to see in a photo with all that obverse toning. Great photos by the way, and a very nice Morgan!

I will look some more but definitely not 123, the mm location is not even close to yours.

So far VAM-34 looks best, possibly a different die stage. You have the coin in hand and can check the subtle attributes better. See what you think and get back with us.

After spending some hours looking at the fine detail markings on this coin I believe I can confirm it to be VAM-34. It's been difficult as the amount of toning on the obverse made looking up a lot of those markings difficult.

The tripling on the reverse is quite pronounced and those match up completely with VAM-34.

Thank you MakeCents and all who lent a hand it's much appreciated. I plan on continuing to look into this one as it's been an interesting ride so far.
