Extremely volatile but I'm still buying - I'd rather be in the game than miss the train when silver goes back up fast.

Or as has been said before, "I'd rather be a year early than a day late".

Silver price was up about $0.76 at just over $29.50 today. In fact, the whole market looked pretty strong today with a Dow 30 gain of 337 points. It was almost as if the market was just looking for an excuse to go up... so, of course, it did!
A bit of good news out of Europe regarding their lower bond yields seemed to help quite a bit, although that really is just a tiny tidbit of good news. I guess when folks are desperate for ANY good news, even a little bit is very well received.

One thing about silver prices is that they seem to drop a lot faster than they go up. Some say that this is proof of market manipulation and it may very well be that. The funny thing about economics, though, is that it can be fiddled with for a considerable period but, like a beach ball held under water, it always reasserts itself at some point. The Soviet Union's masters thought that they could control economics via bureaucratic edict, which they did for 75 years, but economics eventually won out over politics. Could the very same thing happen in the USA? I am betting that it will. How that plays out will probably be quite different here than it was for the USSR but the end result is very likely to be the same.

Glad to see you still on the maples Ed. I have ordered more than my fair share over the past few days. I just feel they currently are a better bullion buy than ASE's.

Though I did take a long and hard look at some of the Proof quarters and even almost bought.

Long live the Queen and her shiny Maples.

Oh, yeah! Love those shiny critters. They are a better buy than ASEs now. I get a kick out of the fact that they have a $5 face value and not the $1 face value of the ASE. Not that any of us ever expects any PM coin to ever be used at face but it is a bit of a giggle.

I agree with the better buy aspect 100%. I ordered 100 of them from Provident on Monday, so should be receiving them in a week or so. They'll make a nice addition to the other 4 tubes worth.

If those are the 90% silver proof Statehood Quarters that APMEX is selling for less than the circulated Washington quarters, they are GORGEOUS coins and at a VERY good price. I have GOT to get me more of those!

Yes they are really beautiful and the only drawback I could possibly see is in a SHTF situation everyone kno .s prior to 1965 are silver. These are after that date. That being said,I did get some of the 2010 proof quarters when silver junk and those were pretty much the same price

My guess that it will end up at the lower end of $30-32.

I voted for $28-$30. I don't think it will move too much in the next week or so, due to the holidays. I do think it will move back upwards during the first quarter of next year, maybe even back to around the $40 range by summer.

I agree, Angel. It's up to those of us who have these to educate others about them and that, yes, they really are 90% silver. Not a problem for me. I have a small single beam mechanical reloading balance that I can use to show that these weigh the same as the pre-1965 90% silver quarters while the cupro-nickel quarters do not. The 90% silver quarters weigh about 0.6 grams more (6.25g vs 5.67g) than the copper-nickel coins. Not only that but when seen on edge the 90% silver coins will appear to be pure white metal and not striped white and red/brown.

Yes I know. I have to get a scale. I have done some half roll searching and have found 5 90 percent and 14 90 percents which is silver at face! An I mention this is that at times looking at a open roll and a coin looking silver only to see it's coated and not. I don't think quarters have as many decorations on them or coatings but that is what I feared. Well my NP proofs are still in the cases. I did get a few 2010 since they wwre cheaper than 2011

Silver broke major support at around $30. I don't expect it to bottom out until it falls beneath $24, maybe $23. My guess is that it will end the year between 27 and 28.

Yes, those are gorgeous... and HUGE! I still find it funny that a silver coin this size is a "quarter". Shouldn't it be a $5 silver piece or some such? It's MUCH bigger than an ASE. Oh, well. No use trying to apply sense to this situation, I suppose. :-/

I actually have a few of the 5 oz 'quarters' but I purchased some of the 5 actual quarter silver proof sets as well when the 39.99 mint price was at par with what junk 90 percent was going for in the spring (just the day before the mint took them off due to silver being high. Figured instead of paying high for junk I would get something with numismatic value as well
