I'm a pastor and in 2000 a member of my church called me about a strange coin she'd found on the floor at a local supermarket. When she showed it to me I could not believe my eyes. It was a Victoria gold sovereign! Someone must have had it as a pocket piece and lost it at the store. I told her what it was and, bless her heart, she gave it to me!

The strangest place I found a coin was my pocket. This recession is killing me.

I found a 1913 penny and a 1934 nickel in my parents change jar.

btw, the jar is a tin from the 50's and is absolutely massive so it took like an hour to look through to try and find old stuff.

Not strange really, but while working as a teller in a CU a gentelman came and wanted to cash in about 40 BU and proof Kennedy half dollars from various years. Needless to say I withdrew them and took them home with me.

I just found a 1943 - s war nickel in a customer wrap. There was also a 1949 and 1957-d in the roll. Needless to say this is my first customer wrapped roll.

Well I was in the local coin store last year and saw some bags of coins laying on the floor in a corner. When I asked if those were waiting to be sorted they said "No, those are Lincolns waiting to go to the bank for face value." Being the nice guy I am I offered to relieve them of the burdensome trip to the bank.(; They said sure.
I'm slow as molasses searching $50 bags and just got into the second one.
It was all copper, memorials and 916 wheats!! Sure didn't expect to find those wheats in a face value bag from a coin store.

My Grandma worked in a corner drugstore in the 1970's. She took in a lot of common silver coins. She also took in an 1850 Spanish 10 reales.

My brother worked in a different corner drug store, also in the 70's. An old lady came in with 40 Indian Head cents to buy a pack of cigarettes.

I worked in a carry out in the late 70's. One day a drunk came in trying to trade a coin collection for booze. I saw what he had, turned him away and was getting ready to call the cops when the owner of the coins came in looking for the drunk.

The year was 1978 and I was stationed in South Korea, we were out on a training mission and humped up a mountain to set up defense perimeters. I was cleaning out an old foxhole and found an odd looking 1974 penny with the state of Washington stamped on it. Years later I found out it wasn't a real penny, it was one of those private mint things. The amazing thing is, I still have it.

When metal detecting I once got a signal right under a cow pat. I dug it up and found an 1898 British penny.

Back when I was at school, I was helping a teacher clear out an old cupboard and I found a coin at the bottom. I put it in my pocket and took it home, where I identified it as a 1901 Russian 3 kopeks. How it got in that cupboard I'll never know. It's still in my collection.

Probably fell out of someone's pocket, the front pockets on those fatigues weren't the best for keeping things in. I never carried anything in those pockets.
