Trout,
I think they have tried fairly hard not to decieve.
The main listing title says "read the details" and the first part of the details describes clearly what they are intending.

Au Contraire, I think they have tried quite hard to deceive.
The " Current Bid" window on an ebay listing is the amount you have to pay plus postage in 99.999% of listings.
This "read the small print" in the heading smells of a scam to me.
I can just see the bidders going up to just under face or face , Then getting the invoice for an additional $100.
The seller has cleverly covered his dodgy butt with the creative wording in the listing and the buyer either pays up or faces a no payment claim.
Why on earth can't the seller just list it for the total cost plus postage
This seller is clearly trying to rip someone off either ebay, the buyer or both

Its a shame because many notes which are still collectible but not worth a large premium are hard to get because no one wants to sell. Such as circulated radars.

I don't think the seller is being deceitful.
I think he is just trying to minimize his ebay fees.
As soon as I saw the listing I saw how he wanted it to work so I'm sure most other people would too. If a listing heading says "please read description before bidding" and you don't read that description then you only have yourself to blame.

I think this is a justifiable way to sell a note that has such a high face value.

It looks like ebay caught on and removed the listing with the contact info.

They've removed the first one, but not the second one yet.

The seller with the second listing is playing a very dangerous game. The last thing they need is for someone to bid, pay only the winning amount and then have some kind of Paypal dispute started for either lack of payment or refusing to sell. It's purely a fee avoidance scam, and ebay wouldn't take kindly to that at all. They would not come down on the side of a seller trying to cheat them from fees.

That really is getting dodgy. The way I see it is the $100 is the investment made by the seller. They need to take it into consideration when deciding whether or not its worth selling. If someone sells calculators and they cost $100 each wholesale they must then sell them on ebay, taking into consideration the fees. How is spending $100 wholesale on a product you wish to sell any different to spending $100 on a note? I don't see a difference.

I agree. The seller is selling a $100 note with a special serial number; it therefore has two components of its value to a collector, face value and numismatic premium. But you can't split the special number from the note itself (not without ruining it, anyway) so you can't separate the face value of a note from it's numismatic premium and have people just bid on the numismatic premium. It doesn't work with gold and silver coins (people don't just bid on the numismatic premium and ignore the bullion value) and it doesn't work with notes either.

If ebay's fees are too high or conditions too unreasonable to sell such items profitably, then sellers should vote with their feet and find another venue to sell them on.

Another dumb broken engrish seller with a feedback score of 6

If your going to be ignorant and poke fun at someone because English is not their first language at least get your *Engrish* right. I don't know fluent Spanish, hardly makes me dumb and neither does being new on ebay. What feedback score did ebay let you start at? 100? 500? If you want to bash the seller, bash him for the right reasons, then you don't look dumb.

Ok so which one of you is "Buddy"
Seriously tho Scubu I don't think Deano was having a crack at this seller purely because of his language skills, I think it is more because of the fact that the seller was using the Aussie ebay site to offload his garbage and that really gets up every one's goat.
The term "Engrish" IS used in Aus to make fun of/degenerate people that do not have a good grasp of the English language and I consider this to be bad form.
I consider this a very minor mistake and was used in "The heat of the moment" and NOT in ignorance.
C'mon none of us are Saints so nice big and lets just get on with our obsession with coins
