Quote: And some sucker will go in and buy it for $750 thinking they are getting a good deal. I was going to say that. lol. Did they not bring in an expert? What the heck. I think I could make a business off of them buying details Trade dollars and selling them.

Yes, I realize this show is for entertainment but It makes me angry when I see all the BS dished out. I'd be willing to bet/predict that Chum will burn through all his money (the show won't last forever) and end up broke as a convict. I also believe when the 'old man' passes away (no doubt from rotted teeth) Rick & Corey will sell the shop and live the playboy life style. Does this make me sound bitter? And of course I realize not everybody uses ebay but it's starting to feel this way. It never fails but when I go to an estate sale or yard sale, I'll ask the owner how much do you want for this item? Their response: "We looked it up on ebay and they are bringing $$$$." My feelings about Pawn Stars would be like a police officers feelings on Adam-12. Yes, it's entertaining but not reality.

Charmy Harker (aka The Penny Lady) was on the show a while back and she is at most of the big coin shows plus the smaller SoCal shows. She was selling something non-coin related and at least had a good time. The guy they used to use as their coin and currency expert (Dana something?) isn't on anymore after it got out that an item supposedly bought by the store was actually owned by him. The producers used a shill to bring it in and go through the nonsense of having it evaluated by the same guy that actually owned it!

The guy they call for the foreign militaria, Jemison BesheArs, used to work for Butterfield & Butterfield and then Bonham and Butterfield's in San Francisco. He is a regular at the San Jose and Hayward militaria shows and also sells occasionally at the Alemany Flea market in San Francisco. He really does know his stuff and the values he gives are pretty accurate but then the stuff they show him is probably his also. Ed ANA LM-3175

About David Hester and Storage Wars, I remember the show with the Elvis papers. He was the one who cashed in on that deal. He at first thou7ght it was one paper but it turned out to be two different papers which doubled its value. I think it was valued at something like 80k Dollars or something in newspapers he paid less than 1k Dollars for. I always knew that show was staged because the only way some of that stuff would be left is if the person renting the building dies and no one knew they had it because some of them have enough cash in the rooms to pay for the storage rent for a year and that just doesn't make much sense to not unlock it and get it out and pay it to keep the rest of your stuff

I watch the show every week, and I try to catch as many of the reruns that I had not seen before as possible. I knew it had to be mostly staged because most of these people are getting ripped off. ebay would definitely be the way to go! They really so tend to overpay for coins; somebody came in with a PCGS graded $2 Newfoundland gold coin that they WAY over paid for. I'll line up outside the shop to sell my coins there every day and all day!

Quote: I just don't get why after an appraiser tells them something is worth $20,000 that they sell it to them for $12,000... Throw that $€|@ up on ebay and get what it's worth... Or ANYWHERE else. Because they want the money RIGHT NOW. Sure if they were to consign it to a major auction house, wait six to eight months for it to come up for sale with the proper promotion, wait another month for settlement, and then pay a sales commission, they could probably get more for it. But that is nine to ten MONTHS from now not TODAY! And what happens if you wait all that time and it DOESN'T sell for more? And of course it is scripted, it HAS to be. They HAVE to generate a new program every week and they have to keep the ratings up. You can't do that just by filming whatever just happens to walk into the shop because most of it is going to be common everyday run of the mill stuff and people are going to get pretty bored after watching the 20th person walk in wanting to sell or pawn his common guitar or handfull of game CD's. Mds308, you say you own a pawnshop, do you thin you could hold a TV audience just filming the everyday stuff that walks into your place?
