Picked this up raw for $70. It has some hairlines from an old cleaning, but I wanted it for a type set and am not too concerned with those. It has a really nice russet toning as well. Thoughts on grade, etc? The obverse almost seems like a soft strike and I was thinking XF, but the reverse looks AU. Going to upload pics in the next post. My iPhone and the image optimizer are fighting.

The detail does look XF and it appears to be a cleaned/re-toned piece. $70 sounds fair enough.

Thanks everyone. Like I said, it is a hole filler for now on a type set so I like the look of it. What makes you think AT jpbone? Thanks

The purple color over the entire obverse is not "normal" for a coin with EF detail, IMO. Even if dipped to white color, such coins generally retone from the edges, leaving brighter centers. The color scheme on this piece just looks suspicious and I would consider it a defect.

natural toning to that effect (colors represented/motteling) will sit on the surface like oil on water and it is very obvious in its legitimacy of it all once you have seen it a few times. Your coin is more of a "baked" on look including having been cooked onto the relief. the other giveaway are the hairlines from the wiping and the fact the AT is to cover those up.

in the end, if you're pleased with your purchase and it serves its purpose than that is all that matters.
