I almost exclusively focus on small cents, so I have a question with regards to this nickel: Is this a normal rim for a Jefferson nickel? It basically has a second, outer rim all the way around both sides of the coin, kind of like a MAD coin has for part of one side of the rim. All opinions are appreciated, thanks.

It that 2nd rim is slightly below the other, maybe it was in a bezel or another holder and the original rim was worn/ground down

A rim image of the edge might show more? But the coin is from a VLDS die example.

You're probably right, Fuzzy317, but what a strange choice of coin to mount. For clarification, either way, here is a pic of the rim:

Okay, it most likely is something other than grinding and it also must be fairly common with nickels (and therefore no big deal), because I just found a 1987-P nickel with nearly identical rims.

All I know is it is common and not from a bezel in this case.
