What is going on with that coin? Is the face melting through the coin?

I do like the obverse though
Rest in Peace

Neo13x, the portrait was pounded out from the reverse -- to create "art".

I'm presuming it was done in the spirit of a tribute. I doubt it's a "one-off" because I think it was made using a die that would've taken some effort to create, but whether it was produced in significant quantity as a commercial venture, I have no idea. It's very well executed, Kennedy's visage being rather in the style of the Mount Rushmore sculptures. It's about 1/20th of a gram light, which suggests some material was lost in the process of finishing.

This is definitely not a "one-off" as luckycuss points out.
In fact, they are quite common and exist in many forms.I have a few Kennedys (a 64 and an 81) as I thought they made a nice addition to my collection.

There are many other coins with this "push-out" effect which is sometimes referred to as "repousse". I have seen IHC, quarters and dimes, mostly silver as well. Liberty is also a common push-out.

First time seeing one of these. That appears to be a lot of work.

Some of them are really well done and definitive. Others seem to be mass produced.

Worth value as an artwork, not as a coin.

Am I the only one who finds this creepy looking? Some half remembered scene from a horor movie keeps popping int my head.

The first thing that popped into my head was that this coin was creepy.

I'd like to see these ones Singer has for comparison.

Certainly it's never going to be certified, but I paid just $1 over its bullion value at current spot.

I hadn't considered it in that light, but I can see how it might give off that vibe.
