I went through a roll of 1970 MS strikes and found 2 with the REGINA showing doubling and 1 coin having ELIZABETH & REGINA showing doubling.

So I have about 3 4L buckets of these nickel dollars.. and was just about to cash 'em all in to pick up either some gold, 1/2 MB of silver or perhaps a couple nice pennies from that langdon auction...
Well I blanked at the auction on the pennies... but now with all this chatter of new varieties discovered I guess I'm going to have to go over all these coins again and have a REALLY good look!
Slur 1st Congrats on this find.. I hope it becomes a "new discovery" that would be so cool for you~!
I have also really enjoyed reading this thread... esp. after you put the coin in the mail... I know I shouldn't be laughing but it has been a bit funny... have faith.. it will turn up...
Well once I finished going through my next box of nickles... I guess I have the chore of going through all my dollars again (thumbs up!!)
Good thing is there only a whole bunch of snow on the ground over here so it'll be something to keep me indoors and cozy

I think I know why SPP can't find any split As. Chad has them all Thanks Ag! That's a lot of dollars to go through, have a loupe handy in case there's something interesting! Don't worry about laughing, I like to make funnies sometimes. I checked my other two 1970 business strikes and they seem to have a similar split R. I think my PL one had one tail pointing up and the other down (if my memory is not playing tricks), instead of straight splits. Here are pics of 2 1970s: This is a 1971, just for the purpose of comparing same obverses: 1968 has it too. All of them are business strikes.

well I feel crappy saying this but it must be put out there, I just went to my lcs and looked throught their nickel dollars, I looked at their '70-'72s and each one had the exact same "A", the only logical explanation is that the notch is on the hub and examples without the notch are examples struck with worn dies.

Don't feel bad dollarman, knowledge exists to be shared, especially in the numismatic community Still, if it does prove to be doubled it means that nobody caught a doubled hub in 45 years. I'm not seeing a "messed up E" in my other coins, but I don't know if I trust that... I don't even remember what the E on my PL looks like anymore. And, is it there yet?

Went to my LCS today. They didn't have PLs so I looked through their business strikes. I only found one with any doubling on the A and it's a 1971. I'm not sure if this is damage to the coin or it is actually from the die. The photo here is from a 1971 dollar. I know this is a horrible pic, sorry. I had to do it quickly because my camera is back on the "storage full" errors that pop up randomly (but when you check through settings, it's not). About the notch on the R, all of them with the original large obverse has it. I think mine has two distinct "outlines" on the lower curve, like what you see on the A in the original pic. Is the coin there yet?

I still have to photograph your coin SlurExe97, my apologies for the tardiness. I am currently in Toronto, at a mining conference (I was "voluntold" to go) and then I am visiting Brock University and University of Guelph for guest lectures later in the week... topped off with a weekend of cribbage visiting my parents next weekend...
I won't be back in Ottawa until the 10th, then I will photograph your coin...

I know I've asked this a bazillion times, but did it arrive?
I looked at a few 1970 PLs at the Mississauga show but didn't see any that looks like mine.

So, how is the verdict? Does it look like a doubled die or a doubled hub? Or something just happened to the A and I am seeing things?
