Can Someone Help Me With Silver Eagles?

in 2006 they made a proof from philadelphia and a proof from westpoint, W for westpoint. The W one is more expensive one. 2007 also has a burnished uncirculated W eagle. The proof also has the W but this eyar it's the normal uncirculated that got a W on it.

2006 was a special year because it was the 20th anniversary and they made special Silver Eagles for this year like the Reverse Proof and the West Point uncirculated coin

Just a couple things to add - and I hope I'm not completely wrong in this. The uncirculated ASE is a bullion coin, meaning that it isn't for general circulation and it's face value ($1) has nothing to do with it's actual value. It tends to be used (1) as a investment or (2) for banks that need to move a lot of "real" money (as opposed to the paper kind) around. You can generally purchase these from a dealer in your area for just a little above the spot price of silver (about $15-17 right now). Different dates in the uncirculated series don't differ much in value, a 1986 is about the same as a 2006 because their values is directly linked to the price of silver. Proof coins are different. These are sold to collectors and, in some cases, have value far above the melt price of silver.

I was going to post the same link as Bruce 1947 but he beat me to it. But it brings up another couple questions I've had about these coins. Are the proofs always made at the San Francisco and West Point mints? What about years with and without mintmarks (i.e., 1994 and 1994-P)? They were both minted in Philadelphia but does one denote the proof series and the other the uncirculated bullion series? I'd be interested in knowing.

Now with 1988, 2003-2007 there is an UNC with and without the W mintmark? These are the only silver eagles I have but none of them have mintmarks. However this is not mentioned in the RedBook any particular reason why?

So technically to have a "complete" set you would need 1 with and 1 without the mintmark no? And this is just for the UNC. Ay carumba I need to start making better tips at work!

From 1986 to 1999 the mint made unc silver eagles with no mint mark at various mints. These were the coins sold to distributors.

From 2000 to date the mint has made unc silver eagles with no mintmark at West Point. These were the coins sold to distributors. (75,000 of the year 2000 coins were included in the Milennium sets. These are the only non mintmarks Uncs ever sold directly to the public. Unless the new dollar coin set that hey just started selling doesn't have a mintmark. I don't know, I haven't checked.)

In 1995 they made a special proof coin with a W mintmark to mark the tenth year of production. 30,125 of these were sold with the gold proof coins of this year.

From 2001 to date they have made proof coins in West point with a W mintmark.
