This is a follow up (or sorts) to the JFK roll discussion we've been having in a different thread. I'm at the in-laws for the holiday and my father in law just got his dad's old slot machine. We were checking out the machinery when he mentioned that he got a few coins with it. Cool, I thought. I was blown away when he pulled out a shoebox full of unopened rolls and loose Kennedy halves!

So here are the totals. I'm not adding these to the other JFK thread because they aren't really from current circulation. They do provide a nice snap shot of what circulation might have looked like in 1977.

1 Walking Liberty half (1941)
11 Franklins (1954-1963)
1964 - 5
1965 - 1969 63 (sorry didn't count these individually)
1971 - 254
1972 - 149
1973 - 16
1974 - 38
1976 - 54
1977 - 2

It's good to see that the last 30 years hasn't cut the number of 1971's in circulation! Most of these are in uncirculated state, with very little damage from the slot machine.

Typo changed. There were 63 coins from 65-69. There were no 1970 coins but I'm not sure why.

'70D was only issued in mint sets. The only time you find them in circulation is if someone broke open a mint set and spent it.

That is really fascinating. It would be awesome to go back 30 years and plucked the more plentiful silver from circulation. Nice finds!
