Good luck, opening bid is below the cost of ordering them directly from Rob. A full set of four would run US$300 plus shipping and handling...

A have a full set, but honestly it is something I don't collect personally. The 1858 volume one has a fascinating historical account of Canada's first coins (1858-1859)...

I've never seen them all together at one time in an auction either. Well, I placed my bid. Only time will tell.

I have the first 1 as well and I refer to it quite often --excellent books I wish I could bid but the freight to NZ is as much as the books.

It is on iCollector... not exactly an obscure auction site...

Frankly, I hope it sells well, and if anything, creates additional variety hunters in the hobby in eastern Canada. But mostly, I hope it sells really well, and maybe attracts the underbidders to purchase Turner's books - all that research was a real labour of love for Rob, and he deserves to have his work so highly sought after...

Ohh SPP let me be clear I have no issues with greater awareness of this hobby and greater knowledge being passed on to all collectors.

I have just been watching '59ers on other threads and it's started to pique my interest is all... I understand that icollector is a very popular web site.. and I KNOW I probably wasn't the only person looking at the books...I also know that my initial bid was very weak and I'm not too shocked that I had been outbid.

The only reason I say I was frustrated was self interests.

SPP you are correct about the iCollector site; and the bidding frustration. I'm constantly searching for replacements for the Zoell books which mysteriously disappeared from my personal library. Prices for them now are many $$$ and the budget just doesn't allow.
Maybe I'll find one in a flea market or garage sale. LOL
AgCoinAu, the more visibility the better but I'm sort of with you it would be nice to 'grab a bargain' before the whole world learns about them.

Don't laugh. I did find a zoell book at a garage sale for 25 cents. I had bought it because I had an interest in coins. Had no clue the importance of the book until a year later after joining this forum

Coin Chick, now I am really jealous. Of course in Canada one is likely/lucky to find one; here in the USA few if any even know the name Hans Zoell.

Good for you on your discovery
You don't happen to operate a "lending library" do you?LOL

Charlton Press has the copyrights for the Zoell publications. Now that Charlton Press has a new owner, I wonder if they will reprint them?

I didn't even see that you were from the US. They are usually not extremely active in the CDN forums

DEVLEC, yep used to have them but they just mysteriously disappeared from my library; haven't gotten a clue who or why. Saw the Major one on ebay for C$100. Couldn't pull the trigger. Just color me
