Lucky Cuss, I think you hit the nail on the strike issues... not only is are there clashes but also rotations of the clashing. the OFF-ALIGHNMENT of the true strikes natural position, which causes imprints of the obverse and reverse to appear upon each others surfaces..
The general rule from MUCH FARTHER BACK than todays practices,,of additional poop and scratches for a
VAM designation.......... WAS Letter transfer..
FOR the reverse few letters are found, the M near the beak and the E by the tail feathers, for the obverse, the I the N,S T as well as the O and D above the head, HOWEVER, many a clash that is strong has not resulted in a letter transfer, the basic rule, so no banana here, or
VAM number........I have never seen so many NEW VAMS online at vamworld as I did today...but thats another story.....
