I had not seen an attractive toned State Quarter in circulation until I got this today.

Pretty cool. Those purple colors usually mean some kind of heat treatment.

Uneven toning. Very artificial.

Artificial or natural, would not matter to me. It looks cool and only cost face value.

How this quarter got this way would not matter to me.

For face value ... it is a interesting looking quarter.

I would keep it

And add it to my other 10,000 Washington quarters ...

Nice. I'd keep it. As others have said, it's AT but it's got a cool look.and being a circulation find adds to it in a small way

You know, I have seen such things trying to be peddled on eBay for absurd prices.

Getting them in circulation, however, is just fun.

As others have stated, it definitely appears to be a heat-treated quarter like many of those you see on eBay by the same seller. That being said, it's still beautiful and very cool to have popped up in circulation. Here's a 1962 PR66 toner I have in my collection. I apologize for the pictures. I'm working on getting better photo equipment, particularly for slabbed coins. I also have 1963 and 1964 toned Washington quarters on the way, but neither is as drastic as this one with the colors.

Park your car at the mall in the Texas sun for the day and leave a handful of change on the dash?

I keep stuff like that from circulation. It is interesting to look at. What I like about it most is trying to answer the big question.. it's like solving a riddle.
