When my 6 year old granddaughter comes over to my house, we look at my toned coin collection as she likes the color on the coins. As we finished looking at the coins, she asked, "where is the Rainbow Coin". Well, "I sold the Rainbow coin". She says, "What do you mean you sold the coin". Well, "I sold the coin to someone else for money on ebay, so I could buy a dollar gold coin". She was not happy with me because I sold her favorite coin. Here is a photo of the coin I sold: Below is the rainbow that I purchased today as a replacement both coins are graded MS65 and P mint. I hope I did OK in the eyes of a 6 year old.

While the coin is beautiful, and selling is part of the coin hobby (in my opinion, anyway) I kind of agree with your granddaughter, lol. An absolutely beautiful coin. I hope you let it go for a modest price, haha.

Both coins area great, but I think the second one is even more "rainbow"-y than the first! :)
Great pickup.

At first I was disappointed with the replacement because its toning isn't as dramatic across the entire surface and doesn't cross the portrait at all. Then I saw the real rainbow, and its halo-like placement. That's quite an upgrade - congratulations!

Nice. Bad move but I think she'll like the new one better. Did you see the pink toner I have linked in the bst forum here up at GC? A little lady might love a pink monster

Buy another rainbow Morgan and slab it, if it is not slabbed already, mainly so that sticky fingers cannot get at it. Keep it in trust for her, until you think she is mature enough to own it well, in her own right. She will then treasure it, remember you for it, and probably never part with it. Unfortunately it is relatively easy to fake rainbow toning with skilful heat treatment. I have learned the skill with cheap coins. Good news for potential buyers: I have never sold a coin on ebay. That's why I prefer blast white MS60+ silver coins, or for me at least, I won't pay a premium in grade for rainbow toning. Your grand daughter is different to me, and she will own it for entirely different reasons; the rainbow toning will have high sentimental value. I still have the first coin that started my collection way back in 1958: a Geroge 1V shilling. My father gave it to me after picking the lock on our Company safe. My grandad lost the keys!

If it's any consolation, I love the new coin!

It will never be 'The" rainbow coin: she may not like because it is not the original. One can never tell with little girls.

I should say - that she was interested enough to remember and slap you down is pretty cool!

Thanks for the comments. I have sold about 100 coins and never missed or had any remorse for selling because I was trying to upgrade my collection. That changed as I do wish that I had not sold "The Rainbow Coin".

I received the new rainbow in the mail today. The coin is stunning with 10 layers of different colors and strong luster. The coin technical looks like a MS65 and not market graded for toning. Below is a photo or the reverse, and the seller sent me a gift 1927 Buffalo. Looks like a VAM 6 with the high six.
