Hello! I am a NEWmismatist (see what I did there? )! I am a numismatist just starting his collection. Does anyone have recommendations as to what I should store my coins in? I currently contain them in plastic sandwich bags separated by type (Quarters, Nickels, Cents, etc.) and in chronological order. Thank you in advance! Have a nice day!

For a new collector put them in 2X2 flips - the cost is minimal while the protection is better than storing the loose coins in a baggie.

Welcome to CCF CoinCollector4002! Others have suggested some storage methods. Never put coins in sandwich bags or and other plastic that has PVC (Polyvinyl-Cloride) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyvinyl_chloride in it. It will damage the surface of coins over time. Only use products made for coin collectors that say archival or no PVC included.

to CCF Sandwich bags are fine for storage - they are polypropylene or polyethylene not PVC - check the box: ZipLoc lists the ingredients, cheap Walmart bags don't... s'truth... However, even if you use the smallest size of bag, they eat a lot of room - and you should not put more than one coin in a bag lest they click against each other and create more bag marks. Cardboard 2x2s or flips are the best choice for storage, however, you can put a lot of coins in a small space (you can find boxes that hold 100). You can also buy album pages and put your favorites into them so you can easily view them and organize them as your interests change.

Welcome neighbor, NYC here What type of coins are you keeping in the sandwich bags? If your just starting out, like most people do, with coins from circulation, wheat cents, etc. Then bags are fine don't waste money on holders for those unless they're BU. However if you are buying coins then buy the 2x2 holders, coin tubes or even folders and albums, it is a must in order to protect your investment. Check out the monthly coin shows in Clifton and Parsippany also, you'll find the stuff I mentioned AND lots if coins too.
