I've seen that mark many times....helps align the sheet in the printing process

I've never seen it but have seen the little centering mark that's more common. Actually, I wish they put that mark on the back, too, so I could make a perfect fold.

Technically it is referred to as a printer's alignment mark.

These marks, in different lengths, are seem frequently on the different margins.
