au58bn. coin is very nice and free of marks but it has very little luster.

This coin is pretty vanilla. It's nice but is as uninteresting as it gets, imho. Not really any wow factor.

I would ask myself whether I want a nice coin in my type set or a greatest coin I can get my hands on for the money.

And if MS I can easily see it making -65.

I don't see a rub from photos.

Technically MS65 or +, but due to lack of luster, net MS64.

I agree 65BN. But where is the luster? Maybe 64, but looks to mark free to be lower then that.

BTW with this coin there's no such thing as BN (or RD or RB).
It's copper/nickel and they don't get those designations.
Same with the 1859-1864 IHC's.

There is. The terms BN, RB, or RD are used to describe the color of the coin.

Thanks for all the opinions. I think this is a really nice example, hard to find these mark free with an even tone. Seems like the consensus that since it may be a lackluster example, it shouldnt be considered for type?

I tend to like all of these. I prefer ones that are toned a little more than this one.

If this received a 64-65 I wouldn't be surprised. I think it is really a slider based on some of the Rev toning at 5-6 o'clock.

2 cent coppers were made out of bronze (95% copper 5% tin and zinc) and receive the color designations.
