I started officially collecting coins back in 2008. Then I was able to find various coin magazines at target, Walmart, barnes and noble, and local grocery stores. Around 2010 I stopped buying coin magazines. Since the latter half of 2017 I've been looking for coin magazines and can't find them. Walmart, target, and the local grocery stores don't have any. And as far as I know barnes and noble no longer exists. I know there are back issues on ebay but I find it strange that there are no current issues of any coin magazines anywhere.

The Internet has pretty much killed off hobby related printed magazines and newspapers. It costs a lot of money to organize, print and distribute a magazine, or newspaper, with information that may be obsolete before it even hits the end user. I think you can still find some publications (like Coin World) online. I don't know if they still do a print edition. They were great while they lasted! I remember going over to my Uncle's house on Saturday afternoon in the early 1960's and getting his week "old" Coin World. His "new" one was usually delivered on Saturday morning. I used to read the ads and remember BU common date Morgan dollars being offered for less than $3 each. The buy/sell/trade personal ads covered many pages at the back of the paper. It was a fun time!

There are still a few independent coin magazines out there (Coinworld, Coins, CoinAge, Coinvalues), as well as several that you can get by being a member of an organization (you get the "Numismatist" if you belong to ANA and the "Rare Coin Market Report" if you belong to PCGS0. But you are correct that you typically won't find these in a newstand.. market is just too small.. and even in a Barnes and Noble it is probably pretty unlikely to find one there.. Your best bet is to search ebay and order some back copies and find the ones you like. I get "Numismatist" with my ANA subscription which I think is pretty good, and I recently subscribed to " CoinWorld" since you can get it at a big discount through the ANA... I looked at a few others, but they are 90% ads and price sheets.. all stuff you can get online.. But I also agree that most magazines are slowly disappearing as everything is now turning fully "online".. just not enough "subscribers" to justify the cost of printing.. so tons of magazines (.. and newspapers..) are disappearing every year.. Good luck! Michael

I have found Coin World and Coins in every Barnes and Noble I have been to, not hard to find at all, along with several treasure hunting magazines. I have noticed that Coinage seems to have disappeared the last couple of months... are they still in business? praetorian2000: Where do you live?! We have Barnes and Nobles all over the place - at least three within a half hours drive of my house!

I live in the suburbs of chicago near the illinois indiana border. There's no barnes and noble out here. I guess the only thing I can do is look for magazines online but I don't necessarily want a subscription. Back in 2008 I would go to Walmart several times a week because I passed it on my way to and from work, browse what they had and buy what I like. Never had a subscription.

Yeah ,a lot of things aren't what they used to be . If there is a coin shop near you they might have magazines or know who sells them .

There's a Barnes and Noble in Indianapolis. They are definitely still in business - just visited them a few days ago.

I subscribe to Numismatic News.............but the magazine section at my local grocery store carries both Coins and COINage magazines. It gives me a chance to look through them before buying --- so no need for me to subscribe to either of them. Unfortunately, both Numismatic News and Coin World are shells of their former selves. But, I get NN mostly for my boys to read through.

Never thought of this before but this might explain something at coin shows. I used to see coin magazines on tables near the front at coin shows. Haven't seen any for a long time now. Possibly not to many are being made today. And understandably so. Why even bother when so much is available free on the internet.
