Are the coin capsules from the 2014 50th Anniversary set of the Kennedy halves easy to open? I have been kicking the can around on getting it. Haven't decided yet but I don't wanna damage the coins trying to remove them from the capsules.

*Complete Canada Toonie ($2) set 1996-present
*And just a mix of everything else!

I have a bunch of capsules from this set that were returned after grading and they can be opened like any other Mint capsule. One sided razor blade...find the edge of the capsule and voila....try not to slice your finger off in the process

Yes. Just run your fingernail or a butter knife along the edge and separate into halves.

It is actually more difficult to get the capsule out of the OGP than it is to get the coins out of the capsules. They are quite tight, you have to pry them out.

What's the point of removing them from the capsules? Are the capsules from the mint not good or is it just personal preference?

Yes. VERY easy. Put on a table, apply hammer. Smash. Splinters of plastic all over. The coin itself may be slightly marred using this method, but the capsule itself definitely will have been easily opened.

Seriously...go for it. This set has some beautiful coins in it and you can easily get them out as jbuck mentioned.

I also agree with jbuck that the capsules are very hard to get out of the OGP. I wanted to see the REV side of all of mine and wanted to preserve the OGP - it took a lot of effort to not make noticeable marks I had pried the capsules out.

Personal preference, usually (but not exclusively) it is to move them to an album (Dansco, Whitman, CAPS, etc.).

Ok I wasn't sure if the mint packaging was bad for the coins or not. Thanks!

No problem. It is perfectly fine. I still have this set in the OGP. I really like it a lot. The 2017 Liberty four silver medal set has the same package design. They make for a nice pair.

I agree, those were both premium styled sets.
