They're no cartwheels, but I think they're still good. I stopped at a bank on Friday to cash my check and the teller who has been the best teller I've ever had, told me she had some huge dollar coins. There were 56 Ikes and $100 in small dollars. I took all of them and besides getting the 77 and 77-D filled in the Ike book, there was also a LOT of Denver Mint Presidential dollars and a 2001-S Proof! WHY would someone break this out and spend it?! A perfectly good $100+ coin, now circulated.

That does not surprise me. At least you found a couple to fill your album.

Nice find! That's not surprising finding Proof coins in circulation. In the past couple years I've found 2 half dollar proofs. They're in awesome condition but have been touched. I don't know why someone would break these out but that's why I keep looking.

Thanks for sharing!

there are many different scenarios to why it could have been spent from someone stole the coins and broke them out to someones kids received them and decided they were worth more at face value than for them to hold onto them. It isn't unheard of and actually happens allot more than you think when a non collector receives a gift like that from a collector trying to strike their interest in coins

Maybe the coin was damaged and a collector thought it would be cool to leave it for a tip at a coffee shop ,, and the waitress just rolled it up with everything else .

I know I have left lots of small dollar coins as tips ! as well as Indian Head cents ,wheaties and some very worn barbers and Mercury dimes .

I knew that would get Jbucks attention with the "Ike hoard" you found !...
And yeah......congrats !.....most times you're lucky to find 4 or 5 Ikes at a bank it seems......That's a great find !
The Presidential dollar finds.......well......not very surprising there though.....

Haha, thanks. The Presidential dollar finds may not be exciting, but the amount of D mints was nice; now I don't have to wait for tourists or stragglers in rolls to appear.

Now......what to do with the excess Ikes?
