Hi all, I am about to finish The 50 State Quarter P/D set (7 coins to complete), and the Westward Journey Nickel Series (2 coins to complete). I hope I could finish them by the end of the year. My question is; What next ? I was thinking Lincoln cents. I need your opinion please taking in consideration that I live in Egypt and that I am interested to collect every single date and mint. Would that be possible ? Am I gonna pay a lot of money ? If you recommend Lincoln cents, what album should I purchase that has holes for this collection ? Thanks

With Lincoln cents, collecting every single date and mm is going to be expensive because of some pricey keys. TJ nickels might be a better option if cost is a factor.

If you collect Lincoln memorial cents you could do so fairly easily and inexpensively, but I suspect you'd be like most of use and want to collect the wheats also. The Jefferson nickle may be the easiest current set. Roosevelt dimes are good but you get into silver from 1964 back. Same for Washington quarters and they go back 16 more years. There is also the Presidential dollars but they don't get much love here (I like them). If you want non-circulating sets that you can complete Mercury dimes, Buffalo nickles or V nickles aren't too hard to get. Fatcat

EASY Lincoln Cents 1959-present (Memorial on reverse only) Dimes 1965-present (no silver) Quarters 1965-1998 (no silver or State Quarters) Nickels 1938-present Dimes 1946-present (includes silver 46-64) Quarters 1932-present (includes silver 32-64) Lincoln Cents 1909-present (Wheat and Memorial reverses) DIFFICULT The first three options are probably the same in difficulty. Nickels you should be able to get a full set from the late 50s to present. Before that there's a few rare dates. I didn't bother adding half dollars or dollar coins to the list. They don't circulate much, and I'd be surprised if you could accumulate a full set in Egypt. As for albums, just make sure they start at the year you want, and does or does not (your choice) include holes for proof coins. Just my opinion, WheatieFan

My vote goes for Lincolns because of their availability and small size being perfect for trade.. or you could always try Ikes + SBAs

The thing I am wondering is: where do you purchase your US coins from? The reason I am asking is that it could be more expensive to pay S&H than the coin itself and that should be a factor in collecting. Since I live in the US I have no idea how easy/hard it is to collect coins out of the country so looking at what is available may be the first place to look. If this is not a factor, then what coins do you like? From your post it sounds like you have already made up your mind and are wanting to start Lincolns, which is a great set to collect because how easy it is to get the modern coins for a great price. I am also guessing that since the two sets you are about to finish are modern sets then going after the Lincoln Memorials would be a great way for you to go. Books and holders is another story and everyone has their own advice and way to do it. I would do a search on the board for the many threads about this subject that already exist. But if you are going for a nicer set, then spend a little more on the holders to help preserve them.

I don't think Lincoln's are a good starter set. I think they're one of the most challenging sets out there for new collectors... I've been collecting for over 30 years and still haven't finished my lincoln set.
Any of the moderns (other than lincolns) would be pretty easy to acomplish, but what I would suggest it to start working on a 20th century type set and from that figure out what you like and which you'd like to spend more time with.

Buying and Trading with friends, Relatives and friends living or visiting USA. I dont buy from ebay, because dealers exagerate in S/H fees. I love challenges.
