Any ideas what VAM this is? I'm having a tough time nailing this one down?

My first thought is it could be die deterioration. I could be wrong but the die flow lines point me in the direction of Die deterioration.

It is a striking error not a die variety, so the denticle doubling will not be applicable to a particular VAM. I believe it is an ejection error (not my specialty, but I have seen this before, and it would not bring a premium for the error alone). Just ignore that part and look at the other features.

Almost all the 1880-P VAMs are doubled date there are a lot of those, check carefully for clashing that may point you in the right direction a bit faster if there is any transferred "M" or "E".

At vamworld they have offer some help to get you narrowed down, try this link to start. http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.c...Sort_by_Date I see some doubling on the 0 for sure, but can't tell from these photos, looks like some die gouges in the tail feathers maybe, I can't tell if there is any clashing, 1880-P can be a challenge, when it's not one of the big or obvious ones.

This I completely agree with. I think I would rather attribute '21-P tail feather scribbles...

Dave, I just cherry picked my first scribble 1921 last week. It was a lot of fun to attribute as well. Nice thing is so many 1921 Morgan dollars are available and affordable. I get some photos of it this weekend, up so every one that wants to can give the attribution a try as well.

'21 is fun indeed. I picked up quite a few rusted dies and feeder finger gouges over the last couple years. Even a couple of 21-D JOH's...
