I have a couple old/vintage Whitman dime albums full of Mercury and (silver) Roosevelt dimes, with most coins showing similar toning. These dimes have been in these albums since I acquired them long, long ago. I believe the Whitmans have contributed to the toning--other factors in-play would include humidity and heat.

Does this toning destroy the value of them?

Is the Whitman a folder or an album ? A folder will be more likely the culprit than an album . But the environment where the book was stored could have been the main problem .

I have coins in Whitman folders that have been there for over 30 years and they look like when I put them in. Storage conditions affect coins more than what they are stored in.

As noted it was not the Folder but the area you kept them in.

Officially toning is damage, but as mentioned, some people seek them out. Personally, I don't mind certain colours, namely blues and violets.
