On the obverse, there is a crack (below the neck and chin) that extends from rim to rim. This is an error, correct? On the reverse, is that damage under the buffalo's head, or a lamination error? Thanks, Maggie

They are called dateless nickels. If it were a 1913, then it would have the type 1 reverse.

But because it is a type 2 reverse it could be from 1914-1937. The coin wear removed the devices. (they should have made the date incuse on these and the Standing Liberty quarters) But they didn't realize the issue until after years later. Why did this happen? Because the rim was not higher than the date digits. If it were not so high up on the design and the date even higher, the rim would have protected the date. (Like it does all coins now)
