My most expensive coin to date is a Gold Aureus of Septimius Severus. It cost me a few thousand dollars. I sold off a portion of my AGE to pay for it. My timing was perfect, since I sold my when the price of gold peaked.

I am a Lincoln collector always meaning to buy the Number #1 coin. Finally spent $500 for my 1909S VDB, should have spent the $100 earlier in life for one (Not quite old enough for $3 coin). Moral: Life's short, coin prices go up, buy it now.

My 1797 10X6 stars dollar cost quite a bit back in 2002. Fortunately I followed Tepritts' advice then and took the plunge. The value has more than doubled since so I'd call it a good investment. Formerly in an ICG VF-35 holder, it crossed to PCGS at the same grade.   |

Biggest by far would have to be the 1856 FE Cent, followed by the 1901-S Quarter.

My most expensive that I can recall right now is my 1983 Proof Mexican Silver Libertad. I spent $300 for it, sent it off to ANACS and it came back a PF67 DCam with a Doubled Die Obverse ( Doubled Date ), so I think I got a pretty good deal. It's funny, the 1983 Libertad actually cost me more than my Pan-Pac $2.50, though admittedly the Pan-Pac is Ex jewlery

Have had many throughout the years but I guess right now is a 1921 Morgan Proof Like. Very near a DMPL. Not real rare but we all know of the Mint State atrocities in the 1921 Morgan series. Dies were used extensively and I haven't seen, in my lifetime, too many real nice speciments. There are some ... but, with the high mintages of this year you would think LOTS of nice examples exist. Course I could be looking in the wrong places.  Also have a MS67 Double Die Obverse Stone Mountain half that isn't too easy to find in higher grades. Piece to all ...  |
