Yes, it's a flip-over double strike in the collar. Worth quite a bit, I believe.

The glare (From the 2X2) is hiding what we need to see. If the devices are not mirrored, that is a plus. But people make soft dies to make an altered coin look like an error coin.

, that's quite rare. I have another 1981 LMC with a significant mint error as well, http://goccf.com/t/350199&whichpage=1. Maybe they're brothers.

Looks like a flip over double strike to me. Incredible find! These are extremely rare and seldom found.

Thanks, Coinfrog, GrapeCollects, CoinHunter27, and all the other responders.

Should I send it somewhere to be graded/appraised, perhaps
PCGS or NGC?

How safe is sending something like this through the mail?

I would definitely consider getting this graded by a TPG. Awesome error coin!

It is a real deal and carry's a good premium, if you are planning on selling it then it would need to be attributed ,if keeping it part of the collection ,then I wouldnt spent on TPG.

Wow, GrapeCollects, that penny does look very similar to mine (my brother's, actually).

Did you have yours graded?

Agree. Dr. coop is the authority here on these things, so please show us photos without the flashback so he can further analyze it.
