It's really a clashed die error and it is not really rare as it can occur with any two dies in the coining press. It is not truly a die variety.

As I write this, their are just under sixty (60) of them listed on ebay. The least expensive Uncirculated one is about $25.00.

Thanks,
Bill

Look at Ben's mouth, it looks like he has teeth that stick out.
Commonly called Bugs Bunny variety.

Small added value.
Also, in recent years other dates have been found with the same die clash, but this (1955) remains the most popular, and the only one with a real premium.

The clash is thought to be the tips of small feathers from the wing of the small eagle motto on the reverse , I have read several paper/articles which have been written on this particular coin, and I'm convinced ita die clash, and as Bill said not a true variety even though it is listed as a variety and is called a variety by many .

we don't need to argue semantics , its a die clash , and its recognised by the collecting world and caries a premium over a coin that does not have it .

enjoy it Kceb10 its a cool coin !

It might be 'called' a variety because there's nothing else realistic to call it (other than what it is - a die clash). It is not, however, a variety, die variety, or error.
