I recently purchased an unwrapped bank roll of the 1955-S whaetback penny & for some reason something keeps telling me to make sure they weren't fakes so I'máasking you guys. not sure if this will get kicked to another forum..anyways they all weigh out at about the same 3.1Grams (+/-). they from what I can tell appear to be legit but I wanted to ask you guys first since I know exactly zero about the counterfeit racket. if you need a specific close up to help identify just let me know

If the whole roll was obvious DDO doubling, these would yell counterfeit, but since they don't appear to be, I think you're safe to assume they are real. Never hurts to ask!

Here is a couple pictures of the roll they came in. I should also add that there was a layer of aluminum foil around them inside this wrapper. I didn't know if that was something they did back in the day to make it easier to stuff the wrapper.

Nobody that I know of practiced putting tin foil inside the roll but I have seen wrapping the outside of a BU roll with it . That roll you have looks legit . now holder them to preserve them .

The mint closed that year. So a lot of these rolls we saved.

Real. Original. Looks to be in pretty good shape for 65 year old coins!

I've got about 50 rolls of those things around here somewhere. Your post has prompted me to find them and open up a few to see how they have weathered the time.
