PR64. Reverse is a beaut, obverse toning is a bit distracting for my taste.

If not a proof, then an extremely early die state. Nice piece, but the obverse is a bit crusty for my liking.

I'm more familiar with the 1878 than the 1877. It's a proof-only date double dime, and has a high survivorship rate for the mintage. I've seen several 1877s, and most are nicely toned CAM/DCAM, mostly PR-64. This one has the blue-purple toning, but the obverse is definitely blotchy. That really hurts eye appeal, and many nicer evenly-toned examples are out there. My first reaction was PR-64 CAM. The reverse definitely could go DCAM, but I hesitate on whether the obverse could make DCAM. Even if this one makes PR-64 DCAM, the eye appeal is lacking, and I just can't see a full 64 DCAM pricing. I have one client who is assembling 1877 and 1878 Proof sets, and I can hear his voice in the back of my head, saying "Wait for a better one. They're out there."

obverse PF63 for eye appeal, reverse PF65. i'll net it at PF63+. not sure the reverse is enough to pull it up a grade.

Yea, I probably overshot this one by a point at least @ MS64. I'd probably dislike this one a little less if it weren't for the giant spot on the obverse. Times up Grape!
