It appears the coin is in a holder. May we see a photo of the full holder, with coin? Thanks.

The craziest part is it stayed in circulation for quite some time before it was finally pulled! Very cool, thanks for sharing!

Well, based on a good look at this spectacular error, it is Philadelphia minted, type 2 reverse, and most likely struck before 1927, since the ones after about that date tend to have more remaining dates.

to the CCF! It's interesting to see an Eight Legged Buffalo nickel!

with the others. Why would a coin with this obvious error continue to circulate? It makes me wonder if it was a 'Pocket Piece' that was carried for years by a collector. It may have been in MS/AU condition when it was found, but it wasn't worth that much at the time. Whoever had it just carried it until it was worn down to the condition we see in the images.

Great error coin! Please let us know the certification/grade.

My dad used to tell me that when he was a kid in the 50s the ones he would still get in pocket change were already worn nearly flat, even the late 30s dates. Errors of this magnitude on Buffs are quite scarce, to say the least. By and large, most people with no interest in numismatics SEE the coins in their pocket, but they don't LOOK at them.

Great find!

Fantastic find! What a great error.

IMHO, the remnant of the left ribbon design probably is ODV-005, which was only struck in 1923.
