Hi All,

I just received my 2021 ASE reverse proof two coin set and I'm wondering if this is the normal quality that you all received or if I just got a weak strike on the Type II.

As you can see there are signficant differences. I have more detail photos but this gives you an idea. (See Below)

I look forward to hearing your opinions.

Thank you!

I don't think these are errors or weak strikes, just slight differences in the designs between the two mints. Mine look same as yours.

Or more correctly differences in the refreshed version and these are designer editions. The US Mint has pictures of the obverse differences between type 1 and type 2, amomg them the size/font of the date.

Also the crosshatch in the stars is barely there now. T2 looks like chocolate that's been through the oven ...

There are significant changes between type 1 and 2 on the obverse.

I posted about the unknown material in my type 1. http://goccf.com/t/408563 Yes, my type 1 and type 2 appear just like the ones you posted. Differences in detail with type 2 looking flat.

The mint stated that they were making changes to better represent "The classic Walking Liberty design by Adolph A. Weinman." "After 35 years, this famous design has been refreshed."

I took a look at the Walking Liberty half dollars and compared. They look very similar if not the same.

So basically they removed embellishments that were added when it was shifted to the larger coin. Restoring the original look reminds me of how they recently rolled back the spaghetti hair on quarters and halves.

Can someone explain why type 1 has defined sandal on her trailing foot while you can barely see it on type 2?

That is the way the design is, it is weaker on a Type 2.
Notice the lines in the bottom of the skirt are also missing.

So what causes this? Die polishing. Remove a defect from the die, it is polished. Often after a clash or damage to the die, so they can continue to use the die without showing the defect. The reduction on the die, first affects the fields of the die, then the sub devices. If this is seen on a larger area, it might have even had Feeder Finger Damage to the die. Thus the reduction of the design is what you are seeing. A closer view of other areas will be helpful, but do not add any premium for the coin. I'm guessing the 10:00 are will also be showing more reduction on this side of the coin. Often times when this happens the polishing can also be seen on the reverse as well. (depending on how much damage the die suffered)
