Hmm, interesting, they all have that dull grey look to them, so they have that suspicious look to them . See if you can determine any magnetism?

I didn't have my magnet ... It is literally in my other pants ... The 83 looks to have a casting mark near the nose... The ping test convinced me ... It didn't register a single frequency on the app and I've used the app at loud crowded Markets and authentic coins have Registered.

The overall bubbliness of the hair too ... And ... Even adjusting for the shoddiness of my tape measurer - they were at least 1 mm small...

If they are undersize, then they are counterfeit. They should be 38.1 mm. The

Looking at them closer... And comparing to fakes... They look like older fakes... One collector bought similar in the 70s... I will take the scale to the shop tomorrow... Curious about these though because I have seen a number of fake Morgans and these looked less obvious. Of course, I could be wrong

For those saying fake, what are you seeing that makes you say this (besides the size mentioned by the OP)?

That's what I want to know too ... The hair and dates look bubbly and I don't think I can 100% depend on my tape measure and there was music so the ping may not have worked... But I didn't get the best feel from them... I also went wildly unprepared... No scale, magnet etc.

The coins have the toning look of Chinese fakes. The hair details are not sharp. The date on the 1879 has a bubble look. I would like to see photos of the reverse. Put me in the counterfeit camp.

Here are two others at an affiliated shop... This particular shop has had a lot of fake coins. I go in assuming most of what they have is fake... I posted a few other threads with fakes. Once these didn't pass the ping app and I wasn't getting exactly 38.1 I didn't think much about them... But they are the best fakes I've seen although I haven't seen many fakes...

A lot of fakes are made in China. It's wise to have a micrometer, coin scale, ping tester, magnet etc. But I think it's even more important who you buy from. You say these Morgans are from shops, are they pawn shops? I only buy from well established coin stores in my city and online. My LCS has an analyzer that verifies what they sell. He has a bowl full of fake coins people brought in to sell and they had been duped. He keeps them to show people. I don't buy coins on Facebook, AliExpress, Craigslist, etc. I do buy on ebay from reputable coin sellers I trust.

That's the problem ....I live in Rome and Morgans sell at a stupid high premium here (ie €60). Rome, unknown to many, has a very rich used market culture... I buy and sell all the time and started coin collecting after finding some authentic coins at reasonable prices... We gotta play the hand we're delt ....

Another idea to use is see if any of these match up with known vams from vamworld.com, die cracks also help, probably other methods as others have said.

Hard to judge these Morgans from your photographs, but three things stand out to me. First, the dates have that "baloonish" look of most counterfeits/copies I've seen. Second, the toning doesn't look natural. Third, I find it hard to believe that none of them have much in the way of contact marks.
