I found a 20$ 1882 Liberty Head among some jewelry from my mom who passed recently but I know very little about coins. I have been trying to research what the approximate value may be but I can't figure out whether it is an "S" or not and if I try to sell it I don't want to get ripped off. From what I can tell it appears to be in decent shape and I took the best photos I could with my phone and kept them under 300k. Any help would be sincerely appreciated!!!!

Yes, it is an S mint mark. There were over a million with the S mm minted.
Compliments on your pictures for a first timer, everything is done right.

Gold being so soft this piece has taken it's share of knocks and nicks. I'm at low AU. Good photography.

Sorry about your mom, that's always hard. Yes with gold so soft that S got mushed from circulation, but it's clearly an S. A big hunk of gold, and a wonderful keepsake if you decide to hang onto it.

Sorry about your Mom.
If you need the money now...then sell it. If not...Keep it for a little while and re-think it...If your mom kept it...it must have been something special to her.

Sorry about your Mom.... just throwing this out there: too many marks (both sides) to support damage by circulation; maybe it was a "pocket piece" from an ancestor? The "S" mintmark is a blob as struck; if it were to have worn away in circulation, so would have all the devices around it. Dies were shipped from Philadelphia plain; the mintmark is added at the mint the die was shipped to. Many 19thC SF issues show blob mintmarks...
