Junk drawer of nickels.. no date buffalos. Beat yo coins. Few liberties. Saw this one and put it under my microscope to see if I could see a date... And wowzers. So I know this is quite trashed. Does it hold any value?

Very low for an 1885 but still more than a dateless nickel. Looking at ebay sales, I'd say in the $50-$75 range. There is definitely a market for cull coins, it just may be a while before you find the right collector.

Does that have nick-a-date applied to it? The dark stain at the date area suggests it has.

If so the value to any collectors will be even less than the original beat up 1885.

Most serious collectors consider nickels which have had the date restored with acid to be damaged coins and value them accordingly.

Not really sure what the dark area is. I don't thinks it's nicdate..? It's almost looks like maybe it was heated up. It's weird

JTCC is correct; you'll have no trouble selling it; someone or two is always looking for Key Date culls. Maybe spend a few bucks and ANACS it for good measure
