Ever since I started getting rolls of half dollars to search from my credit union, instead of bringing the 1970 and later dollars back, I spend them. It's neat seeing the looks on people's faces when I pay with them. Usually there is a response like "I haven't seen these in years!"
It's amazing how clueless people are about some things however. I went to the starbucks drive-up and when I gave the girl my $5 worth of Kennedys she gave me a wierd look and called her manager. Now she was probably in her mid to late 20's.
I couldn't hear what she asked, but I knew what it was about. What I did here was the manager saying in an excited yet comical tone "that is legal tender my friend!" and he gave me a smile.

Friend of mine went into Taco Bell with a $2 bill. The cashier said it was fake and called the manager over. The manager said it was a fake to. My friend said, "It's real money I promise." The manager promptly said..."I'm going to call the police." My friend said..."OKAY!" with a grin on his face. Police came and said to the manager in a forum friendly tone. "Sir you are an idiot, take the guys money." Ignorance is only bliss when I get to laugh at someone

Honestly the best coins to use are Ikes. Almost everyone under 21 have never seen one before. I have met SO many McDonalds, Taco Bell, Wendys, etc managers

I wonder if he ever called the police again about receiving a $2 bill.

I guess I am missing why she would ask if you are a Clemson fan. What does a $2 bill have to do with that.

I used a 1976 model on a 7-11 cashier the other day. He's from Grenada and did a triple take. He also hadn't a clue that at one time the U.S. of A. had silver coins.

Quote: "You must be a Clemson fan?" I used to live in SC, and when I was young, I kept ever $2 that I ever came across. Naturally, I had a lot of notes with the tiger paws. But a few years later when I revisited them, I thought I myself put the stamps on! I wanted to kick myself for marking the notes! But then I read that they were Clemson $2s and it was all OK...

@jbuck- that's interesting. I've been living in the Charleston area for 10 years now, and this is the first I've heard of it! I tried spending some Kennedy half dollars a few times last year... 2 out of 3 times, the cashier thought they were "those new dollar coins", and I had to correct her. I gave up on them after that. On a vaguely related note- I also try asking bank tellers for "any of those old, larger-sized dollar coins". Best response I've gotten was "What, you mean them ol' ball-headed dollas?" It actually took me a couple seconds to realize she was talking about Ikes. I managed to agree politely instead of laughing.

Quote: But a few years later when I revisited them... That is a funny story! I have never marked them myself, but I have quite a few of them that I have saved over the years. One of my tailgate buddies distributes them to us before the bowl games. It is always fun to spend them during the game; and even funnier when fans of the other team get them back as change! Quote: that's interesting. I've been living in the Charleston area for 10 years now, and this is the first I've heard of it! It is probably more common knowledge in the upstate. BTW, I love Charleston; I will be back down there in a month or two! Quote: "What, you mean them ol' ball-headed dollas?" Them's fightin' words!

Within the past week I have used Kennedy half dollars, Two Dollar Bills, and Harrison Presidential dollars to pay bills. The usual clerk reaction is to look at the money for a few seconds, and then proceed. It's as though they need a few seconds to process the new experience, and then continue on so as not to look dumb.
