A fellow CCF member spotted this one and sent the lead my way. After spending some money and waiting for the mail, this arrived today. Looks like a pretty nice DDR, currently unlisted.

Now to figure out who to send it to as getting new listings has been a bit of a puzzle for some time now. It would seem that the new 1914 DDO that was found recently got listed by Dr. Wiles as VDDO-002 and it shows up on the VarietyVista website. The CONECA website remains a disaster while VV is it's usual well-organized self, just getting a slightly different attribution for new submissions. I gotta think that is the way to go.

Yikes other than generalized thickness of the letters, are there any key aspects for us to look at in this series? Trying to learn something today. Thx.

I see it as a later die state, not a DDR.
But I'll wait for a more experienced opinion.

I see 'fat' letters on the reverse legends - does that truly qualify as a doubled die?

Guess I maybe need to look at more Buffalo nickels. The first dot being elongated seemed generally enough for most of the DDO coins I've seen to at least be some minor doubled die. The bulging of the devices in FIVE nearly removes the spaces in between the letters but that is just die wear? I'll have to give this one another look.

I agree with your observations bats. The spread on the dot separating UNITED and STATES is a bit more than I'd expect from Die Deterioration. Die Deterioration is likely playing a factor on the lettering, but again, not the cause of all of it, IMO. Looking forward to updates.

Appears to be a pretty interesting clash by the Adams apple. I'm in the DDR camp. The elongated dot confirms it for me.
